If you're in marketing but you haven't learned about the Internet as a market, you're behind the times and you need to learn about it. If you don't know about Internet marketing now, and you don't start learning about it right away, you'll be missing out on a lot of money now and maybe even more money in the future.

Here are 10 reasons why you should bone up on your skills in Internet marketing if you haven't already.

1) THE INTERNET IS HERE TO STAY. The Internet is not some flash in the pan. It's THEE wave to ride in the 21st century. Every single year sees great leaps in the amount of Internet traffic and the amount of information, including business and product marketing information, placed on the Web. Wake up to this reality and use it or lose out.

2) ONLINE MARKETING DOESN'T COST MUCH. Let's say you're trying to run a brick-and-mortar store and you're making most of your advertising campaigns through traditional means such as mail outs or radio advertising, for example. Of course, this will bring you some success, but you're never going to get the return on investment you can from Internet marketing. Most likely, at least a major percentage of your clients surf the Web. This includes prospects that may become your clients if they just knew you were there. Therefore, save your money and don't lay it out for traditional means, or at least cut back. Instead, invest in some Internet marketing to reach people for a fraction of the cost, faster. 3) INTERNET MARKETING IS FAST. Once you get things initially set up, marketing online, using digital power, takes off almost by itself due to its viral nature. You can never move as fast offline as you can online, because the Net is the information hub of the 21st century.

4) INTERNET MARKETING IS EASIER. You're not going to be able to sit there and eat bonbons and watch your business simply grow itself, but it's certainly faster and cheaper than traditional marketing. You don't have to pay a team of sales people, you don't have to make cold calls, you don't have to stuff envelopes, and you don't have to do voiceovers or run radio ads, for example. Just get on your computer and set up your advertising there.

5) INTERNET MARKETING CAN BE A LOT OF FUN. And guess what? Your schedule is your own. Heck, you can work in your underwear if you want to. Listen to your favorite music, have the TV burbling in the background, or whatever you want. You can't be fired, because you work for yourself.

8) YOU CAN GET MORE PROSPECTS. Basically, your audience is literally global. As long as they speak your language (in this case, usually English), you can sell to them. After all, it is called the "World Wide Web."

9) IT'S COOL. If you don't have kick-butt online marketing and content going on for you these days, you're seen as a nobody.
