A Quick Synopsis of Season 1 of Chuck

Season 1 of Chuck debuted on September 24, 2007 on the NBC network. The show aired on Monday nights at 8 pm, leading into the flagship series for the network, Heroes. Created by Chris Fedak and Josh Schwartz, it centers on Chuck Bartowski, an average computer whiz kid next door who finds his life turned upside down in the pilot episode during his birthday party.

Season 1 of Chuck started with Bartowski opening an email that was sent from his old college roommate at Stanford University, Bryce Larkin. Larkin graduated from Stanford and took a job as an agent with the CIA, while Bartowski moved back home and started working with the Nerd Herd at his local Buy More store (a thinly veiled jab at the Geek Squad found at Best Buy stores nationwide). In fact, season 1 of Chuck is packed full of random cultural references.

For example, one of the cultural references found in season 1 of Chuck can be found in the very first episode of the series. In it, Bryce steals the top secret CIA information from the super computer found at the CIA headquarters. Upon further inspection, however, the super computer is actually one of the original Mac Pluses. In the same episode of season 1 of Chuck, the cell phone like communicating gadget that Bryce uses is an OQO Palmtop computer, which is actually identical to a similar device in Doom 3.

Certain episodes of season 1 of Chuck have more cultural references than others, with the episode of Chuck vs. The Sandworm having the most to date. In this particular show, there are many parallels to The O.C. episode The Countdown. This is probably a direct result of both shows having been created by Josh Schwartz. Dan Akroyd and Chevy Chase even manage to make significant appearances in one of the episodes of season 1 of Chuck.

Throughout season 1 of Chuck, the main character uses his flashbacks of the CIA information to help the CIA thwart various attacks, from assassins to actual terrorists. At its absolute lowest point, season 1 of Chuck was number 62 in the weekly ratings with 7.14 million viewers. At its best point, season 1 of Chuck was number 32, with 8.48 million viewers tuning in.
