ABC Resorts to Oscar Parody for New LOST Episode

By: Groshan Fabiola

Lost steers clear of its conventional promotional approach and showcases it’s best foot forward. Although fashioned in a comedic manner, its "Oscar Parody" blends in well with its recent episodes, generally centering on the light hearted plots.

Lost, an award-winning drama adventure series follows the lives of a group of plane crash survivors on a strange and mysterious island, somewhere in the South Pacific. With a large ensemble of talented actors, the show entails a lot of suspenseful twists and cliffhangers that often leaves the viewers baffled and bewildered.

With millions of viewers worldwide, the show’s marketing team is always on the verge of creating and launching different ideas and concepts to gratify and give pleasure to its huge devoted fan base. This latest marketing approach, distinctly different from the previous trailers reflecting a typical and straightforward question-and-answer structure, appears to be well received by the avid viewers of the show Lost, evident in the progressive boost of the ratings from its previous sluggish stance. The bearish ratings, although not entirely caused by the previous stunts and exploits from the marketing of Lost, is partly due to viewer’s disillusionment of the misleading trailers.

Moreover, this strategy may considerably lower the heightened discontent and frustration of many fans on promo clips, which tend to mislead viewers regarding upcoming episodes containing much-awaited answers and clarifications of the puzzling and disoriented plot just like in the ninth episode of Lost’s season three called "Stranger in a Strange Land." The said episode was supposed to have answered three huge mysteries but to much disappointment, the episode only explored the mystery of Jack’s tattoos.

Ultimately, this marketing move, which displays bits of preview of the upcoming episodes without making any promises is a positive feature viewers tend to appreciate, a refreshing feature from Lost’s usual adrenaline-filled clip.
