Arlington city is located just across the Potomac River and not far away from Washington DC. It has about 203,000 residents and is a part of theCommonwealth of Virginia, Formerly it was part of the District of Colunbia, and it was retroceded to Virginia in a July 9th 1846, act of Congress that took effect in 1847.
With a land area of 26 square miles, it is geographically the smallest self-governing county in the United States. CNN Money has ranked Arlington as the most educated city in 2006. It ranks within the top 100 among cities having population over 50,000 with high percentages of Master's or Doctorate degree holders, Forbes' Web site ranked Arlington as the 9th richest county in the United States in 2006, based on the County's median household income of $87,350.
Ample opportunities for fresh air exercise are provided by Arlington's numerous off-road bicycle trails, all of which travel along the Potomac River. One of these trails, the Mount Vernon trail runs for 17 miles along the Potomac, continuing through Alexandria to George Washington's plantation home. In Arlington's southeast corner, immediately south of Ronald Reagan Washington national airport , the Mount Vernon Trail connects to the four mile trail run Trail, which travels westward through Arlington in a stream valley.

Arlington is now ranked as one of the most educated cities in the US. Working professionals; government employees and students who have their residences at Arlington have contributed immensely to its economic development. The city also caters to the needs of the ever increasing student population of Arlington and Washington DC. This has increased demand for Arlington real estate.
