AdWords vs. AdSense

By: Kirt Christensen

Every internet marketer knows the words. Google AdWords and Google AdSense are the new kids in town in the internet marketing craze and everyone cannot wait to jump on the bandwagon. Suddenly there are fliers and e-books everywhere touting the greatness of these marketing venues and encouraging everyone to fly off their couch, sign up with an affiliate company and launch their own internet marketing career.

What is AdSense? What is AdWords? Are they the same thing? What differences are there? These are details that need too be discovered but the information is often not given by the fanatics out to get converts. It is surprising the number of gaps in the information. Information is one thing an internet marketer cannot be short on.

Google Adwords is based on a very simple concept. If someone goes to Google and types in some words in the search engine bar they are asking Google to point them into direction to find what they want. These words they use are known to internet marketers and related people as: keywords.

Keywords are what are used to show a specific group of people specific ads or websites. An advertiser can take advantage of this by using these keywords when they advertise. In this way they can have their ads displayed with the search results. This can bring almost two times the exposure

When creating your adwords campaign great consideration should be taken. Even greater consideration should be taken with the management of your campaign. When an adwords campaign fails it can cost the advertiser a large chunk of his campaign funds. With a pay per click (ppc) the good thing is that the fee for showing your ad is usually small, less than a dollar. The bad thing is that these small fees can compound rapidly.

Adsense works for the website owner like adwords works for the advertiser. With adsense, website owners choose a list of topics or keywords that are pertinent to the topic of their website and then Google sends them a variety of adwords ads to show on their site. When someone clicks on the ad they are payed a portion of the fee google charges the advertiser. Hopefully when the searcher clicks over they will buy from the advertiser. If working properly this is beneficial for both adwords and ansense subscribers.

If confusion still clouds your mind on their relationship, do a search on Google on those two words and you can get a more precise definition and information on step by step instructions for setting up either campaign.
