It is the best place to come to terms with reality and try to turn over a new leaf.

The name Alcoholics Anonymous is symbolic of the fact that you can be anybody and your identity will not be asked if you so wish and never revealed. There are no attendance records or membership information in Alcoholics Anonymous and you can easily turn all your attention to getting rid of your alcoholism problem instead of thinking about what people will think or what will happen if someone comes to know about your problem.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a wonderful organisation with no commercial interests and with a non profit making status. Members are free to attend meetings as the wish, and should you fail to attend a meeting, nobody will come knocking on your door. There are no membership registers and your identity will always remain anonymous.

Many people are afraid that they might end up meeting friends, neighbors or relatives at their local Alcoholics Anonymous center and then their secret will be out. A point to consider here is that these people who you might know are also there because they are suffering from the same or even a worse problem than you are; but being a part of Alcoholics Anonymous, these people will never reveal your identity or your problem to outsiders.
