All About The Norn, A New NPC Race In Eye Of The North

By: Jack Smithson

With the new Eye of the North expansion Guild Wars has brought two new races into play - the Norn and the Asura. As is tradtional for new Guild Wars releases, players who had pre-ordered enjoyed an early access weekend.Since most people will encounter the Norn first, we'll be covering them in this article.

The Norn are a race of giant Viking-like hunters and warriors. One surprise is that the fearsome Norn warriors can magically transform into bears in battle. While exploring, if you party are all killed, they will be resurrected at the nearest discovered Resurrection Shrine.

Norn NPCs are by each shrine - talk to them to get a bounty of 1 Reputation Point for each creature you kill.Along with the Norn comes the Norn Title Track, which is used to gain access to Norn NPCs, their quests, and special Norn skills.

Rank 1 is required to use any Norn NPCs in outposts.Consumables can only be crafted once you reach Rank 3.Norn Weaponsmiths will offer their services when you reach Rank 4.Special Norn armour can be crafted for you once you reach Rank 5.

Gain the respect of the Norn by defeating them in combat.Only once you have defeated them (a relatively easy task with an 8 person party) will they talk to you.Giving you a Reputation Point per kill, the Norn Hunting Party blessing is a good way to advance on the Norn Title Track while exploring.Another random bonus is an increase in the Norn Hunting Party blessing level, which gives you more Reputation Points for each kill.

It's important to note that you can only get Reputation Points and bonuses from NPCs once.Keep an eye on the map to keep track of where you have travelled - Resurrection Shrines appear on your Eye of the North map, and you can travel back to them to pick up NPC bonuses.

One of the best random bonuses an NPC can give is Strength of the Norn, which is an enchantment spell lasting for 60 seconds. It grants +100 health, and when it runs out, you are healed for 100 health.

As your Rank in the Norn Title Track increases, you will find you can access new NPC missions. When travelling back to an outpost, you can easily see if NPCs have new missions for you.
