Allegra- The Allergy Reliever

By: Roger

Thanks to the advancement of medical science, what one thought to be a serious ailment can now be certified as allergy and is no cause for worry. Allergies are a common problem and few are unaffected by it. Two out of ten Americans suffer from allergy. Allergies are an overreaction of the immune system. People who have allergies have a hyper-alert immune system that overreacts to a substance in the environment called an allergen. Exposure to what is normally a harmless substance, such as pollen, causes the immune system to react as if the substance is harmful.

When a person with a hyper-alert immune system is exposed to an allergen, the body starts to produce a specific type of antibody, called IgE, to fight the allergen. If the allergen is in the air, the allergic reaction will likely occur in the eyes, nose and lungs. If the allergen is ingested, the allergic reaction often occurs in the mouth, stomach and intestines. allergies can be categorized are mild, moderate, or severe. Mild reactions include those symptoms that affect a specific area of the body such as a rash, itchy, watery eyes, and some congestion. Mild reactions do not spread to other parts of the body. Moderate reactions include symptoms that spread to other parts of the body. These may include itchiness or difficult breathing. A severe reaction, called anaphylaxis, is a rare, life-threatening emergency in which the response to the allergen is intense and affects the whole body. It may begin with the sudden onset of itching of the eyes or face and progress within minutes to more serious symptoms, including abdominal pain, cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as varying degrees of swellings that can make breathing and swallowing difficult.

Allergic reactions can be treated with medication suited to the patient after proper diagnosis, which may require a comprehensive pathological examination. Allegra, as its name suggests is well known to many as an effective cure for allergies. Allegra is an antihistamine and works against the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body and rarely causes drowsiness. If you are affected by serious illness such as heart, liver or kidney discuss with your doctor before taking Allegra. Allegra is best suited to prevent sneezing, runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, and other allergy symptoms. If one experiences difficulty in breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face when on Allegra get in touch with your doctor immediately. Like all medications of its category Allegra is not free from side effects.
