Apple iPhone 3G - ushering in a new world order for mobile phones?

Announced on June 9th, the improved Apple iPhone 3G is causing just as many waves as its predecessor did. But is it better than just a phone; is it actually kicking off a whole new quantum leap in the world of mobile phones?
What makes the iPhone series so different?
Back in 2007, a mobile phone was unveiled that caused one of the largest splashes in the history of mobile phones. As you probably know, that phone was the iPhone, touted as Apple's new mega-device, something that would sell more than all other mobile phones in the world. Fans called it a touchscreen masterpiece, and the single best phone ever made, but looked at in the cool light of day, was the iPhone really the revolutionary wonder-phone they would have us believe (or do we need to wait for the Apple iPhone 3G for that)? Was it , in fact, that different to other mobile phones?
To be fair to the iPhone, predecessor of the new Apple iPhone 3G, it was one of the best-looking mobile phones ever made. It did look gorgeous, and it's easy to see why people adore its looks. On top of that, of course, there was that massive touchscreen, making it the first device in the pantheon of mobile phones to utilise multi-touch, basically letting you poke multiple places on the screen at a time. Why was that good? Think back to the 'pinchy-motion' on the iPhone (which you also get on the Apple iPhone 3G), that let you move in or out on photos. That's why multi-touch is great, and why in that respect, it beat other mobile phones. But the iPhone wasn't perfect; it lacked some things that ruined the whole experience, and the most worrying of those things was 3G, the fast data technology that most mobile phones in the UK have. It was definitely a bad thing to not add!
But now, there's a new incarnation of the iPhone... and this one, to let it fight it out with other mobile phones, DOES have 3G. Say hello to the brand new Apple iPhone 3G.
Apple iPhone 3G - a new benchmark in mobile phones
Now that the Apple iPhone 3G's been released, we at last get a glimpse of how it will rise to the challenge thrown down by other mobile phones. And of course, with this new model, an iPhone finally has 3G, meaning you get a fast data speed, without hunting for a hot spot. It can finally hold its own against other mobile phones on an equal level. Ok, granted, its camera remains, well, rubbish, but with the modifications made to the device, and the new, lower price, it's abundantly clear that the Apple iPhone 3G has got what it takes to make the big boys in the world of mobile phones very edgy, and then force them to up their game, bringing about a brave new world for mobile phones!
