Aussie Salute's Great Tasting Port in Red Australian Wines!

If you are searching for an excellent quality wine at a great value, then seek out and try Australian wines. Australia produces some of the best quality of wines in the world at a price that won't break your wine budget.
Wine production started in Australia around mid 19th century, but it has been within the last 30 years that Australia's wine region has developed into quite a noticeable producer of quality wine. The country has grown to produce a variety of great wine choices in both the white and red wine categories.
Australia's climate is in line with the climate regions of California, therefore it is no wonder that they produce product very similar to the kinds of wines that are produced in California.
Many wine enthusiast's might know about the distinctive variety of the Shiraz or Syrah Australian wines, but many people have not heard about the Durif. The Durif originally started out in the Rhone Valley in France. This type of wine grows well in Australia as it produces a great Durif, which is also sometimes referred to as a "Petite Syrah." The geographical climate in Australia works well to produce an excellent quality Durif. If you have not tried a Durif, it is a recommended "must try," as it has excellent color and a wonderful taste.
Rutherglen, located in Victoria has become a very popular area for producing excellent Australian wines. There are 17 wineries located within a short driving distance from the center of town. Rutherglen produces fabulous sparkling red wines, along with Muscats, Ports and Tokay's. Rutherglen has become known the world over for the quality of wine from that region.
Another area in Australia that has become famous for producing outstanding wine, is the Pyrenees located in central Victoria. This region has an abundance of over 30 vineyards and has over twenty types of wines from Chardonnay's to Sauvignon Blanc's to Merlot's, Pinot Noir's and lots more excellent wine choices.
Mornington Peninsula, located just south-east of Melbourne has about 60 wineries in the area that produce small barrels of high-quality Australian wines. Once known for large apple orchards, it is now known for great red wine choices, including an excellent Pinot Noir that comes from this region.
Another wine region located in South Australia that is popular is the McLaren Vale area. Consisting of small wineries primarily run by small business owners and family run businesses. Vineyards planted over one hundred years are still vibrant today producing excellent grapes for wine harvest. The climate and soil work beautifully together to produce great tasting wine. This area has a Mediterranean climate with dry summers. McLaren Vale has long hot days and cool nights which, makes for an excellent climate perfect for producing some of the best tasting Syrah's in the world. McLaren Vale has been acknowledged as an outstanding producer of Shiraz. The berries harvested here are smaller and they produce a more intense and complicated wine. Shiraz is one of the excellent products produced from this region but other wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache also have noteworthy reputations for their excellent quality and taste. Similar to that grown in Spain, the Grenache, grows exceptionally well in this geographical region.
One of the most scenic and beautiful wine producing area is the Clare Valley located in Southern Australia. Established by English and Irish settlers in the 1840's the building architecture resembles the influence of these two cultures. With a continental climate of hot summer days with wonderful cool nights, it is no wonder that an award winning Riesling has been produced from this area. Other noteworthy wine contributions are Syrah's and Cabernet Sauvignon's.
Australia has become known for a country that produces excellent wine since the 1970's. This country delivers delicious wines at great wine values. The largest consumer of Australian wines is the United Kingdom, but you can find popular Australian wine in the United States as well, as the U.S. is catching on to the excellent quality and value in Australian wines.
