Baby Modeling: Good Choice for Your Baby, or Bad Choice?

By: Erin Petersville

Any good parent worth their salt in parentdom, upon hearing from those around them how cute and adorable their baby is, will undoubtedly head to the nearest modeling agency and sign their cute little bundle of joy up into a lucrative career in baby modeling. But is this the right thing to do? There are several things to consider before jumping into this pool filled with piranhas and sharks.

If you can get by that warning, then you will want to know how to proceed. The obvious route is to go online and look for the free contest offerings. Because the first place to start is to get your baby noticed. Oh, sure you can submit photos to modeling agencies, but entering your baby into the free contests online or in your community is so much more fun and immediately rewarding, especially if your baby wins!

Also, there is the opportunity to place your beautiful baby in traditional beauty pageants that are held throughout the year. This is also a great opportunity for you baby to get noticed, as most pageants' sponsors are the very people who you want your child to be noticed by.

The good thing about online photography contest entries, is that once you have entered your baby's pictures for any of these contests, they remain there for outside influences to find, such as modeling agencies and those with connections. If your baby wins the contest, even better. It could lead to more contests, and more exposure.

If you go the route of entering your baby into contests, whether photo contests or actual pageants, there is no greater opportunity to enter, for the greatest exposure, than the cutest baby contest. The name says it all. What parent doesn't think their child is the shoo-in for winning a contest of this type? But you know that yours is the cutest, so why not prove it to the world, and especially to all these modeling agency executives, by entering these contests and taking the prize?

One often overlooked criteria when considering whether or not to raise a baby model in your household is how your baby reacts to this life. In other words, is your baby generally happy most of the time? And more importantly, is your baby easy to get along with and gets along well with others? If not, don't bother. Shy, irritable, hard-to-get-along-with babies don't get hired.

Another area of consideration is you. That's right, you. The parent. Are you up to the challenge? If you are overbearing or hard to work with, it's no deal for them. They will not hire your child.

So, if you pass all these pitfalls and considerations, then I have just one more piece of advice for you. Keep in mind that you are the only one with real good intentions for your baby and his or her career. There are many disreputable agents out there looking to feed off your baby's cuteness. If you deal only with accredited agencies, you should be safe, as they will be the ones who will be able to place your baby into legitimate opportunities.
