Breakthrough Scientific Discovery: Latest Weight Loss Science

By: Doc G. Savage

There are arguably hundreds of fad diets on the market, but the fact is they don't work. It's a sad truth, but they just don't. In addition, just a signifacant proportion weight loss diets that are "new and improved" are fad diets. These and many other diets currently popular in the press are just fashionable. They only work for a very short period of time, for a very small segment of the population, and are temporary. In short, you usually gain your weight back, sometimes more, and very quickly.

Only a few weight loss diets work for most people, and these are diets that are realistic. They don't work by restricting food in unrealistic ways. Rather, they work with reality, based upon how the appetite and how the body work. They appreciate the reasons why people eat too much, or too much of the wrong things, and work on this. They don't severely restrict calories, because this isn't sustainable and only causes weight gain over the long term, usually. In short, they teach people how to succeed with long-term weight loss, gradually and steadily.

For most people, eating is a very enjoyable experience. If food looks and tastes good and you're hungry, of course you want to eat. The problem with those who struggle with weight is that usually they eat at least a significant amount of food that isn't good for them. Most of these foods have tastes and smells that are irresistible, even though they're bad for your health when eaten in significant amounts.

This can make it very difficult to keep up with a weight loss program and stay away from these types of tempting foods. Too much exposure to tempting foods (as well as giving in to them and eating them) can cause your diet to fail. Couple that with the sub-optimal eating habits that many have established, and even the most dedicated of dieters can fail.

In addition, people are individuals, so that the way we metabolize and digest food can change the way we handle it in terms of weight gain or loss. Different people eat for different reasons, and stress can make some people turn to rich and fattening foods.

While some people struggle to be trim and slender, others have to struggle to gain weight. Some people should be avoiding high GI carbohydrates more than others because their bodies cannot cope with the sugar load. Others have problems with fat and cholesterol metabolism. How can any fad weight loss diet promise to apply to everyone when we are not all the same?

But there is at least one new method of weight loss that is not a fad. One that does not make empty promises. This is a weight loss program that is not a diet at all. It is a holistic method that has been scientifically put to the test. This is one of those methods that pays respect to the way the body really works. It involves the taste and scent. And as they say, the nose knows.

Medical director of the Body Metabolism Institute, Dr. Leon Massage has founded a very successful weight loss program in Melbourne, Australia. His method is natural and drug-free, and helps his patients control their appetites and avoid binge eating. As he was investigating methods for this weight loss method, he discovered some research done by the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. The research included 108 overweight volunteers who were on average 48 years of age and 197 pounds. Their average body mass index was 31, with a body mass index over 30 being considered "obese."

The group was given two bottles of different-flavour crystals every month over the course of six months and these volunteers were asked to sprinkle the crystals on each daily meal. They were asked to continue their normal eating and exercise programs, if applicable. By the end of the six months, 92 of the volunteers finished the study (85.1%). They lost an average of 33.6 pounds (15.2 Kg), an average weight loss of 5.6 pounds per month."

The trial concluded that certain tastes and smells could induce a very real sense of satiety. That is, they helped volunteers feel full. This occurred even if the same foods were eaten and volunteers did not perform any additional exercise over what they normally did. Because they did not have the desire to overeat or to eat in a way that was out of balance with their own personal chemistries, people could naturally begin to lose weight until they got to a personal ideal weight range for them, or a healthy BMI. They did not need to undertake unnatural or forced behavior patterns in order to lose weight.

As a result and based on this, and similar, research, Dr. Leon Massage of the Body Metabolism Institute has created the BMI Weight Loss Wristband. He infused the special scents that suppress hunger into a wristband that could be worn during the day and the BMI Weight Loss Wristband is simply sniffed by the wearer whenever she feels tempted to eat more than she knows she should or really wants to. The BMI Wristband goes a step further by using the concept of neuro-associations it has added a motivational message to the wristband. Now wearing the wristband as a reminder and smelling the infused scents creates a positive neuro-association with the smells and tastes that curb hunger.

This means that losing weight doesn't have to be a painful process. With Dr. Massage's wristband, weight loss can be painless, natural, effortless and permanent. The results denote visible success.
