Cigar cutting is an art too

By: Trevor Wallace

Rolling Cuban cigars is a process that goes back hundred of years. Cuban cigars have a very long history. The art of producing Cuban cigars has been passed down from generations to generation and has hardly changed.

A good example of this is the cutting process that is involved in getting a cigar prepared to smoke. If you do this properly, you will enjoy a fantastic cigar. If you do it improperly, the cigar will become almost unusable and will be very unpleasant to smoke. Although there are many different methods, here is a little bit about how to cut a cigar.

The first thing that you need to do is actually inspect the end that is about to be cut. If you bought a fine quality cigar, you will notice that the end of the head is almost totally closed by a little cap of tobacco leaf that was left over to keep the tobacco fresh and in place. This is really going to be the gauge that you will use in order to cut the cigar properly.

Clip it too far and the cigar will start getting loose and eventually the Cuban tobacco will fall out. You must understand these are hand rolled, although hand rolling is much better than machine rolled, you still have to be careful and not damage your cigar entirely. Try opening it up by seventy five percent - just the cap that is.

So as I mentioned earlier, there are different ways of cutting your cigars. One of the most common styles are the 'guillotine' style. It is a cutter that if you use it right, the cap of your Cuban cigar will always be cut the proper way. I love the fact that they are portable and can easily fit in your pocket. Now days they got some very stylish cigar cutters that further add to your personality. To use the guillotine style cutter, simply place the start of the cap inside the cutter and make a quick snap. Your Cubans will almost come out cut all neat and tidy.

What the idea is that you should always have all the cutters required for you to enjoy and more importantly to use them. See Cuban cigars come in different shapes and sizes, so if you have all the styles, you are pretty much set for any kind of Cuban cigar that are out there. As some cutters work better on others, it is highly recommended that you get all the styles of cutters in close proximity to you.

What you don't want to do is use scissors - I highly discourage that although a lot of people do it. Cuban cigars are amazing so you should take that extra step and get some Cuban cigar cutters. If you are not sure, just go down to that Cigar shop around the corner and they'll help you out. It's just that easy.
