Most of the obese or overweight people succumb to heart attack. This problem generally seen in obese people is caused due to high cholesterol levels in the blood. The excess cholesterol flowing in the blood forms a layer in the arteries over a period of time. This leads to hardening of the arteries and causes blockages within them. As a result, there is no proper flow of blood. This can cause less blood reaching the heart or even stop the flow of blood to the heart and thus causing heart attack. Higher the blood cholesterol level in your body the higher is the chances of getting heart diseases or even heart attack.

It is very important to maintain optimum level of blood cholesterol to avoid any kind of problem. Weight control is the key to maintain cholesterol . One should avoid saturated fats like meat, butter, cheese etc and should only consume low cholesterol diets like fresh fruits and vegetables.

Nowadays, pills can also be taken to control the cholesterol level. Lipitor is one of the prescription pills used for lowering the cholesterol levels. Lipitor is normally used by the patients with more than one risk for the heart including high cholesterol, high blood pressure or family history. Lipitor should be taken under the guidance of the doctor and it is not meant for people having liver problems. The side effects of Lipitor are not very severe, it is normally a mild stomach ache, gas or constipation. Similar to Lipitor there is another drug called statins which also helps in controlling cholesterol by way of reducing its production by liver. Therefore, to enjoy the life to the fullest it is important to keep a tab on cholesterol and weight.
