Decompile Video Features

By: Chris Hoffman

The Decompile Video feature included with Blaze Media Pro enables you to quickly extract and save frames from a video file into individual images. You can save these images into a variety of formats including GIF, JPG, PCX, PPM, PNG, RAS, SCT, TGA, TIF, and XPM. Once you extract the files you can modify them as you desire.

Using the Decompile Video feature in Blaze Media Pro is easy. Click the Decompile Video button located in the right navigation list on the main Blaze Media Pro window to open the Video Decompiler window. Before you start the decompile video process, you must specify the dimensions of the output file(s). You do this by selecting Define Custom Size from the File menu. A window displays for you to input the width and height dimensions. When you select JPG as your output type, the JPG image quality drop-down list is enabled. You can also specify the quality of the images by selecting a value from 1 to 100 from the list.

Now you are ready to add video file(s) whose frames you want to extract by clicking the Add file(s) button located on the File menu. Blaze Media Pro supports the AVI, MPG, WMV, and ASF video formats. Select the file(s) for which you want to decompile video.

You can select multiple video files to decompile by pressing and holding the Ctrl key while making your selections. To select a range of files, select a file and press and hold the Shift key and then select the file at the end of the range. If you select multiple files to process, the Batch Video Processor processes the files in the order in which they display in the list. You can edit this order by selecting a file and by selecting a navigation task such as Move Up from the Edit menu.

Once you have selected the file(s) you want to decompile, simply click the Decompile button. You can also start the Decompile Video feature by selecting Decompile from the File menu or by pressing F5 on your keyboard. To protect the integrity of your original file, a window displays allowing you to select a location for the frame files. When you specify a location, Blaze Media Pro creates a folder with the same name as your video file.

Once you specify your file location, the Decompile Video process starts. To monitor the progress of the process you can view indicators that display in the window. The top indicator displays the total number of frames in the video and the number of frames that have been processed. A progress indicator displays at the bottom of the window indicating the percent complete.
