Does Your Computer Seem Tired?

By: James Russo

Are you puzzled by the fact that your computer is running very slowly? Would you like to know of a few cheap things that you can do to help it run faster? Here is help for you.

Below is a list of several things that you can do even if you do not consider yourself to be a computer expert. In addition to being easy each of these things are either free or cheap. These are also several of the secrets that a repair shop will charge you $100 or more to perform.

If your computer is a few months old the first thing that you need to consider doing is going in to the control panel of your computer into the accessories group and running the defrag program. This defrag program will arrange the files on your hard drive in a more logical fashion so that your computer can find these files quicker when it needs them.

While the defrag program will organize the files on your hard drive in a more efficient and effective manner you should then also run the program that checks for bad sectors on your hard drive. Bad sectors on your hard drive will slow down your computer's access to the hard drive. Running this bad sector utility will help you by repairing bad sectors or instructing the computer to work around them effectively.

Also consider investing in some software to protect your computer from invasion of spyware. Spyware is software that unethical marketers manage to sneak on to your computer that spies on you and reports back to the merchant. Along with exposing your personal information the very process of reporting back to the merchant slows down your computer. You can take advantage of one of the many free anti-spyware programs available on the Internet or increase your protection a notch or two by investing $30 or $40 in a corporate level program that is surer to protect you against invasion.

Now you want to go through your computer's control panel and uninstall any programs that you find on your computer that you have never used or have not used for a long time. You will also find programs that the manufacturer installed. There is a high likelihood that you found them useless and never actually did anything with them. Go to your control panel, generate a list of programs in your computer and then be merciless in going through the list and uninstall any program that you have not used in the last year. This will free up even more room on your hard drive for more efficient access.

Now you need to consider spending some money. Not a whole lot of money. Think in the range of $50-$100 to increase the memory in your computer. It is lots cheaper than buying a new computer, right? In all likelihood your computer could use more memory than what is currently installed. You will find that whatever you spend in order to add additional memory to your computer will speed it up tremendously. And if you do just a little bit of research on your favorite search engines you will discover how truly simple it will be for you to install your own additional stick of memory.

These are just some of the things that you can do to speed up your computer. Several of them you should just consider to be routine maintenance steps that you performe periodically. While it might take you an hour or more to do them all the first time you will discover that going through these steps subsequently will take you much less time and you will always be sure that your computer is running as fast as it is physically possible of doing. Naturally there are even more things you can do to speed up your old computer and avoid the cost of a new one. Check below for more information.
