Eating out in London

The city of London has probably one of the most by various collections of restaurants with regards to variety and diversity.

This probably reflects the fantastic diversity oft population in different lifestyles within London.

Greater London has a population in excess of 7.2 million people, it he’s won all of Europe’s most densely populated areas. Within the United Kingdom nearly 1 in eight people in the UK live within the environs of greater London and London has up to 3 million households.

London is Europe’s richest city and has one of Europe’s most successful stock exchanges. So we have established that London is a major international centre.

It is probably this international dimension that gives rise to the variety of restaurants styles and varieties. Probably one of the other reasons why London has such a broad diversity of restaurants and eateries stems from London’s history as the capital of the British Empire. An empire according to myth and legend upon which the sun never set.

As well’s famous restaurants and eateries, London’s own residents can show up and source food from a variety off into national markets. As well as the more well known major markets of Covent Garden, Smithfield and Billingsgate, the citizens of London can shop in up to ten farmers markets. These include markets at Blackheath, Ealing, Islington, Marylebone, Notting Hill, Peckham, Pimlico Road, Swiss Cottage, Twickenham and Wimbledon Park.

It is estimated that there are in excess of fifty three different types of cuisine to be found within London spread amongst over 6,000 licensed premises. There are examples of world class cuisine to be found all over London with some of the United Kingdom’s better known chefs (such as Gordon Ramsay etc) with having their signature restaurants in London.

Among the generally accepted top 10 restaurants in London you can find French cuisine, Mediterranean cuisine, Modern European, Moroccan and Italian cuisine. Menus vary in price and structure from simple two course French cuisine at the Almeida Restaurant in Almeida Street N1 where a two course meal can be sampled for £14.50 through to basically the skies the limit at some of the more well known signature restaurants.

Within the centre of London in Soho and Covent Garden is where possibly the greatest variety of restaurants can be found from small French brasseries to Chinatown in Gerard Street.

Whatever you want to eat and whatever you want to spend, it can be found within London you can be assured.
