Many people like the look of natural wooden flooring but they are put off having it in their homes or offices because they know how easily it can become damaged. Humidity is especially a problem for wood floors and some installers have been extremely doubtful as to whether they should actually place them in some buildings. However, with the introduction of engineered flooring, you can now how the wood effect without worrying about the damage.

What is engineered Flooring?

Engineered flooring is basically very similar to laminate flooring. It has a top layer of hardwood and it comes in a variety of colors and styles to suit you. You do not have to worry about the floor being exposed to the environment as it is extremely durable. This means that you can have all of the benefits of real wooden flooring, without the hassle of environmental damage. This is because the middle layer of the engineered flooring is actually made up of high or medium density fiberboard. This allows the flooring to expand as well as contract depending upon the weather.

Another advantage which will appeal to many people is that the cost of engineered flooring is a lot less than real wooden flooring. You install it either by interlocking it or gluing it down so it is really easy to do. It should not take you more than a day to do one room - obviously depending upon the size and shape of the room!

One tip which you may find useful is to purchase a foam sub floor. This helps to lower the level of noise that comes from the flooring and it will also make the flooring that little bit warmer too. The only thing to watch out for with engineered flooring is that although it can be sanded down, it should never really be sanded down more than twice. So if the floor does become damaged then it would be a good idea to have it replaced by professionals, rather than trying to do it yourself.

You can also purchase different quality engineered flooring. This means that there is always something to suit your budget. However, the more money you can afford to spend on engineered flooring, the better. This is because more expensive engineered flooring has more layers to it and that gives extra protection to the floor, helping it to last longer.
