If you were to open any womens magazine which you saw displayed at the bookstore or at the airport news rack you would only need to flick a few pages to come face to face with societies obssesion with cellulite. I am confident in it's pages you would find either an ad, feature article or most likely a photo of the latest maturing celebrity with cellulite.But this behaviour makes no sense whatsoever. It's a big deal but what the heck is cellulite? If we were to refer to wikipedia it says for cellulite " a condition that occurs in men and women where the skin of the lower limbs, abdomen, and pelvic region becomes dimpled after puberty". Descriptive names for cellulite include orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, the mattress phenomenon, and hail damage. Inspite of most peoples belief both women and men of all ages can have cellulite. This effect when seen in young baby will cause adoration will lead to horror when see in the mirror by most women. Trash mags and celebrity photo mags take an almost mischevious delight in displaying across their pages pictures of celebrities photographed with powerful zoom lenses showing the orange peel like skin around their legs and butt of the latest celebrity as if it was some sort of serious illness. Just cast your eye across the shelves of the drug store, beauty counter or the numerous websites out there and you'll find dozens of creams, potions and lotions to get rid of cellulite. Strange thing is they will all claim to be the best solution to get rid of your dimpled areas on your legs and thighs a condition known as cellulite. What many people so easily ignore out of choice or ignorance there is a very simple solution for cellulite elimination and preventing it in the first place in a word, EXERCISE! that's right In most cases, regular exercise such as biking or walking will rid you of cellulite and tone your legs and bottom better than any cream, lotion or other method ... Yes I know unlike the other methods you might need to put some physical effort in to things but the big plus is you'll almost certainly drop a few pounds into the bargain I find it so difficult to understand why when we have let our bodies fall into bad shape before we start worrying about it them. If only we started looking after them before hand we would all live much healthier lives. Don't think that cellulite is a sign of bad health it is not , nor is it a disease or even and illness . You might find this hard to accept if you listen to the skin care companies or read articles in womens magazines. But their interests lie else where. Simply walking for half and hour every day will do more for your self-confidence and overall feeling of health than any magic cream or lotion or those increasingly popular electric muscle stimulators. If you found time like I did to read research about cellulite, it is very simply fatty tissue that is not generally unhealthy in its self (unless you also have too much body fat overall) and really no different from ordinary fat any where else on the body. Should you choose a spa treatment a cream you apply yourself or even the latest must have gadget they all make claims which may well leave you disappointed and feeling cheated. There is I am afraid to say no quick fix for excess fat other than a healthy diet and some exercise. Also, remember that your body's pattern of fat distribution is essentially inherited, so everyone's 'problem areas' are different so don't take it too personally you can always blame your mom. A leading source for information about cellulite is the US National Library of Medicine which states: - Stop Smoking if a smoker, and take regular exercise not forgetting to maintain a healthy weight without huge fluctuations. Drink plenty of fluids (ideally water) and consume at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Usually when I tell people that cellulite is nothing to be concerned about they look at me bemused as to why the magazines make such a fuss.
