Free newspapers

Free newspapers are periodically (daily or weekly) publication, distributed free print media with editorial content. The funding is exclusively from ads revenue. The distribution is usually either in public spaces (such as at stops of public transport commuters in newspapers) or to all households in a given area . Most of the free newspapers will appear in tabloid format and small. The orientation of free newspapers, the proportion of editorial, the ads of independent reporting and the quality are very different. Package judgments on these media genus often dominate the discussion, but are not scientifically tenable (because often with counter-examples refutable).

The entry of free newspapers felt the most established newspaper publishers ever since as a threat.So some publishers tried to close them in the past in vain, by legal disputes. Meanwhile, a triumphant free newspapers around the globe promises and incumbent newspaper publishers are even in a free newspaper business entered. Today there is hardly a major publishing house, not even publishes free newspapers.

History of free daily newspapers

As the first free daily newspaper in the world today "Manly Daily" launched in July 1906 in New South Wales (Australia). It consisted of two pages and had a print run of 1,000 copies. There is still (circulation 91,000) in Murdoch News Corporation.

The history of free daily newspapers in the United States goes back into the 40er years. The publisher Dean Lesher founded in Walnut Creek, the Contra Costa Times newspaper, which remained free until the 60s. The newspaper is the fourth largest newspaper publisher in the United States.
