By: Wil Smith

If you have white teeth you've got a everlasting smile . Having white teeth is viewed as an attractive feature of a smile . Therefore, it is no wonder that a lot of people have thought about teeth whitening.

Tooth bleaching, also known as tooth whitening, is a common process in general dentistry but most importantly in the field of cosmetic dentistry. It is estimated that one-third of Americans have tried or asked about teeth whitening treatments. It has been proven that bleaching your teeth will make them whiter .

The Lost Smile

We're all getting older and one of the things you find as you age are your teeth get darker for a number of reasons . This darkening is due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous. Food, drink and tobacco are other things that will make our teeth darker .

Having white teeth is linked with being young, hence making them very desirable. Hollywood films are seen worldwide and we all wish to look like our favourite Celeb with that “Hollywood smile” .

To get teeth whiter you must employ teeth bleaching products. There are a number of these available on the market today . Teeth Whitening methods applied will vary in effectiveness, cost, durability, and side effects.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work

In laypersons terms oxidising agents such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide penetrate your teeth and over time bleach them. The exterior of your teeth is called enamel, it is this which is penetrate by the oxidising agents to reach the layer underneath called dentine.

There are 2 main methods for bleaching your teeth; the fast process and the slow process. Both do the job efficiently but come with pro’s and con’s.

The first method which is the so-called office bleach involves applying a high concentration of oxidising agent for a short period of time to whiten teeth. This gives fast answers but can also burn the soft tissues encompassing your teeth .

Take home or over the counter bleaching process is the slow method . This routine requires using a thin mouth guard or strip to hold a low concentration of oxidising agent next to the teeth for as long as several hours per day for a period of five to fourteen days to whiten teeth. The risks affiliated with this process is a lot less than the office bleach method .

As science moves forward so does our knowledge of whitening teeth. Light technology is now being used to whiten teeth . Light technology is still in the infant stages and its effectiveness is inconclusive .

Tooth Bleaching or commonly known as teeth whitening will give you a brighter smile irrespective which technique is used to achieve the results you want .
