Getting the Facts to Lose Weight after giving Birth

By: Teresa Brown

If you are a cardio lover and are still struggling to lose the pregnancy weight, then the writing is on the wall. Find out what that writing on wall has to say to solve the mystery of why, with all your hard work, you are not shedding the pounds.

We can easily drown in the sea of information that is available on fitness and health. One needs to find a means of sifting through it all. The following will save you "sifting" time and make your efforts to lose your tummy worth your while.

1. Cardiovascular exercise takes you only so far.

Cardiologists love cardio because it is the exercise that is best for strengthening our heart and keeping it healthy. It also builds up your muscles endurance. Even though cardio burns calories, its overall effect, when done too much in tandem with a diet can result in losing your muscle mass. Therefore, you will get slim but have no muscle tone.

Why not make cardio worth your time and effort? You can make it work for you to burn the baby fat by doing cardio interval training. Cardio intervals keeps you moving at varying intensities within a shorter time frame to keep your heart rate and metabolism up. For example, changing the pace at which you run for 30 minutes will challenge your body more than running at the same pace for 60 minutes on a treadmill.

2. Using weights to get toned go together like Bonnie and Clyde.

We are quick to notice a woman with a lean, toned body but fail to connect that she got that "look" by strength training with weights and not from running 6 times a week. Weights come in different shapes and sizes but the ones suited for your purpose are free weights. Strength training with weights stimulates the muscle fibers to re-build your muscle's density. A dense muscle is a strong, toned muscle. However, not all strength training is the same and you need resistance strength training to lose your tummy.

Compared to other forms of strength training such as power lifting or bodybuilding, resistance training does not make your muscles bulky but it does increase your muscle and bone density. Rest assured that using weights as part of your workout will not bulk up your muscle unless you are willing to undergo the intense diet and exercise regime of people who want to big muscles.

Rest easy Mom, you won't be able to get bulky using free weights or an exercise ball to trim your tummy. When you work your muscles using some form of resistance, you will get a lean, toned body and have more energy to see you through your busy day. You will look and feel great.

3. Weight training is not only for Body Builders.

The wonderful thing about resistance training is that you don't have to be in a gym in order to do a workout. Once you have educated yourself on resistance training, you are ready to lose your tummy. Activities such as using free weights, using an exercise ball during abs exercises or using an elastic band to add resistance to your workout to build muscle can all be done in the comfort of your home.

Gym memberships can be taxing on the family budget and on your time. Your best bet would be to workout at home. This is possible with a resistance workout because it requires any type of external resistance, whether it is elastic, water, free or body weight, to work your muscles. It will not only save you money but it will save you time as well because a workout lasts no more than 20 minutes.

Although exercise is key to losing the baby fat, you need to utilize the most effective exercises to lose weight. By incorporating resistance training into your workout routine, you will reap the most benefits and get back into your skinny jeans sooner than later.
