Hardcore Straight and Gay Sex Scenes Kept Under Wraps to Promote AIDS Awareness

In 1981, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) published its first report on a mysterious, deadly enemy that would come to be known as AIDS, or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Unsure at first what the disease was or what caused it, it was eventually determined and confirmed that the virus was communicable through the sharing of bodily fluids such as semen, vaginal secretions, and blood. The HIV virus, which is the virus responsible for AIDS, is also transmitted from sharing hypodermic needles and the like. In the 1980s, the fear that the AIDS epidemic caused was surpassed only by the number of people who fell victim to the disease, most of whom had been gay males.

Since that time, AIDS awareness movements and gestures have spread far and wide across the world, and the industry of hardcore gay sex entertainment is certainly no exception. In the earlier days of the pornographic movie, not one actor would be seen in any film putting on a condom. As the seriousness of the AIDS crisis continued to mount, slowly but surely, the adult film studios began to show both gay and straight porn stars donning the rubbers to cleverly take a stand on using protection, without their message being to in your face or intrusive to viewers. Fans of the movies took notice, and more and more, instead of the big no no being the use of a condom during an explicit sex scene, the pooh poohed practice became NOT using a condom in the fleshy, horny shows. Many people began to think that not using a condom for protection in porno movies was a selfish, egotistical way that many low key, struggling studios used to break into the business. Other people, however, still enjoy bareback movies because it is all about the dangerous and the forbidden, which continues to keep the bareback porno flicks in demand.

The movement that porn studios were pushing didnt end there. Once the use of condoms in straight and hardcore gay sex movies became the norm in 1992, a new term erupted to classify movies that did not advocate the use of the condom. The term barebacking was used to refer to having sex without a condom in these movies, and many online adult movie businesses refused to rent out or sell bareback movies that had been made after 1992.
While some people hail and support the industrys decision to try to encourage condom use, there is not 100% support for the move. While films that do advocate using condoms continue to make way in the fight against AIDS, the forbidden danger that bareback films bring to their fans continue to divide the adult film industry, in all aspects of porn, whether it be hardcore gay sex or big time straight sex.
