How Emotions Affect Gambling

A players state of mind will greatly affect that players ability to play in a casino a happy player ill bet more freely then an upset player, and an angry player will be more guarded and careful then a depressed one who will be making all sorts of simple mistakes.

Most of the emotions on this list will have a negative impact on your gambling ability. Unless you are very skilled at putting aside your emotions and using your head you should not gamble in online casinos sportsbooks or in any one of the terrestrial casinos.

Rage – in this highly volatile state gambling is a very bad idea. The chances are you are not going to do well and you may hit another player or beat on a machine and all this is going to do is get you put in jail and hit with heavy fines. Does that sound like a good day or a bad day to you?

Happy – a happy person is not likely to make a truly bad decision, but they may be likely to take a chance that in reality may not be such a good decision, but because of there emotional state it may seem like nothing bad can happen, believe me it can and often does, but a happy player will usually leave the casino still in a good mood with memories of the fun they have had and not the $200 they just lost.

Sadness – a sad person very often does not care about anything at the moment, and should never gamble. They are just praying for something good to happen, but because of there state of mind they often miss all the real chances and signs telling them what to do and just do what they want and wind up losing and sadder then when they started.

Love – Love is a great emotion and who does not want to be in love, but in the casino love can be death. If your mind is on your love interest and no on the game you are playing, how can you expect to win any money? There is also the chance that this can ruin your love, if you are losing because you are thinking of a woman you love and because you are not paying attention you lose all your money it is not beyond the realm of possibility that you can form resentments towards her.

Jealousy – maybe the guy next to you is winning a lot of money and you are not. Well becoming jealous is understandable, but it is not good for your game. Remember luck is a big part of every casino game and sometimes good luck is not on your side.

Disappointment – a disappointed player in the casino will usually only find more disappointment there, this player may want to go for a walk or go to one of the many bars found in a casino. You may be just looking to cheer yourself up and think that a few rounds of poker will help, but in most people when they start losing the disappointment may grow into a nasty beast that will tear you up from the inside out. Maybe this would be a good time to play the Slot machines.

Horror – if something has you spooked the casino can be a good place to hid from something, but it is a bad time to actually try to gamble. You will not be able to focus on the game and being horrified by something and losing all your money at the same time can really stink.

Nervousness – sometimes nervous can be a good thing some nervous people can focus all their nervous energy into playing the game and they are sure not to miss anything, but sometimes nervous people miss everything make simple mistakes and lose it all.

Optimism – Optimism is a good thing to have in a casino, you should always feel like this is going to be the night, but don’t let that thought control you remember you are being positive, bit there is a good chance it will not happen. You have to control your optimism or it will control you and you will start making the dumbest bets because you think you must be due.

Loss – Losing money at a casino or sportsbook is no way to deal with loss, and loss is a very powerful and over whelming emotion that will stop you from thinking clearly. I am sorry but this is another emotion that you should deal with and get over before hitting the casino games.

Shame – shame can be a 2 Way Street where as a person dealing with shame may not want to look anyone in the eye and may stay very closed up this can be confusing to your opponents. Depending on how closed off you are it may make you unreadable to the other players giving you an advantage over them, but because you are so closed off you are not watching what they are doing and miss all the easy ones.

Neglect – this is one of the most dangerous emotions to have when playing in the casino. You may subconsciously try to lose everything just to get someone to pay attention to you, but ill let you know now this approach will fail, the casinos do not really care about your problems and for the most case neither will the other players in the casino. If you need to feel like someone cares do not look for it in the casino go see a psychiatrist.

Pride – Pride is a good thing and it gives you confidence and in the casino this is a very good thing, but you must remember that just because you are confident does not mean you will win. Just because you have pride in your skills or yourself as a person does not mean you are the best, there is usually always someone better.

Sympathy – there are people out there that will try to cheat in the casino, they do not count cards or use fake chips. What they do is find people who look like nice people and sit next to them and start a conversation during the game. They will tell you about a sick child or how they are going to get kicked out of their homes or anything that may make you feel sorry for them so you may throw the game for them. These people will con you out of your money then go to another table or casino and start it all over again.

Irritation – if you are irritated at something outside or inside the casino leave. This annoyance will keep your mind off the game and will cause you to not play well which will just feed into the irritation.

I hope these tips on emotions will help you decided if you should really be playing in the casino or doing something that will end better for you.
