How To Extend Your Iphone Battery Life

By: Chris Simpson

If there is anything that annoys more cell phone users it is losing battery power while you are on the phone. This has happened to nearly everybody, and at least once it caught you by complete surprise. When you are running a cell phone as powerful as the iPhone, it is easy to understand why the battery power begins to drain. When you are listening to your favorite song, checking your email and text messaging several friends at once, you are requiring a lot of the cell phones' power. Thus, you will begin to drain your cell phone of battery life quicker than you thought.

The Apple website clearly explains the expected battery life of the iPhone but this information assumes that you are running just a single application. Since the iPhone gives you the ability to perform several tasks at once it is likely that you will be using more power than you expected and therefore getting a much shorter battery life.

However, there are several things that you can do to make your iPhone's battery life even longer. Of course, the iPhone isn't known for draining its battery extremely quick, there is always room for a prolonged battery performance. If you follow these tips, than you will have an iPhone that lasts you longer than you could even imagine. Perhaps the best tip that anyone with an iPhone can follow is to simply turn off your Bluetooth if you are not using it. Very little people understand that when you keep your Bluetooth turned on, when you are not using it, you are draining your battery.

The reason that having your Bluetooth switched on even when you are not uses it still drains power is because it has to constantly search for any other Bluetooth devices that might want to pair with your iPhone. If you don't want to pair with another device then switching your Bluetooth off with help improve your battery life.

Another thing you can do is to make sure that you always lock your phone when you have finished using it. Every time you end a call, send a text message or check your email get into the habit of pressing the lock button. Very commonly people will wait for the screen to automatically shut down by itself but by locking it as soon as you have finished using the phone you will be saving precious battery power. You can also use the iPhone's auto lock function so that your phone will automatically lock itself should you forget to do so. Many people have their auto lock period set to five minutes.

While five minutes might seem a short amount of time if you use your phone just 10 times a day then that's 50 minutes of battery power gone just waiting for the auto lock to take place. Instead you should lower your auto lock to one minute. Doing this will ensure that the phone will not stay lit when not being used and is probably the simplest thing you can do to improve your iPhone's battery life.
