The internet today has become a haven for online scam artists and thieves. Most just want what you have.

If you are new to the internet you must understand the ins and outs of how things work on the net. If you dont you could lose.

Even people who have been online for a longtime can get taken. Scammers are continually coming up with new scams and ways to cheap people out of their money.

Now with all that said, the internet is still a great place for many things. Things like games and research.

You just need to know how to protect yourself. Also you need to know what to look for.

There are a few rules anyone can follow while online.
The first and foremost rule is to never open emails with attachments from people you do not know.

These emails can contain viruses. It is these viruses which are designed to steal information from people.

Although not every virus will steal your information. Some may destroy your data and make your computer run slow.

So what are some of the other things anyone should be on the lookout for while on the internet? Well, you should believe only half of what you read online. That is unless you know the source is trusted website.

While on websites, always make sure the address is pointing to the website you think it is. Just look in the address bar.

Way too often people click on a link and think they are visiting a legitimate website. When in fact they are redirected to a scam website.

This is very common with pay pal scams and other types of online scams. Dating scams are another favorite of scam artists. These cons lure people by chatting with them online sometimes for months before asking for money to fly to them.

They usually ask for half the ticket fare only to never be seen again. Or it can be much worse.

Also, more and more websites are being loaded with spy ware and Trojan viruses. so, you need to be on the lookout.

Once you visit the website in question a code is executed in your browser. Then it is downloaded to your computer.

This is becoming more and more common. So it is best to get an anti virus package that has a internet feature to help block bad websites.

Once such program you can buy is avg anti virus, which will guide you with check marks next to websites while you are on a search engine.

Dont just give your money away because you think something looks good from a website you know nothing about. Always make sure you check out the website before doing any business.

You can do this by going to the better business bureaus website and call up a report for the company. The internet is a vast place and you should learn how to protect yourself and your family.

Sure, you can have lots of fun on the web. Just beware there are people wanting to take your money or destroy your computer data.

So in summery, the best way you can fight back is to become educated about the internet. And know what scam artists are doing.

Next, make sure you have good anti virus software. Also make sure it is updated all the time.

Use a program such as spybot search and destroy. This program will help keep your computer secure of spyware.

Why not also have a friend or family member who is knowledgeable about computers check out your system. Doing this from time to time can be a big help.

Paying them a few bucks now may just very well save you from lots of grief in the future with online scams.
