How to Decorate the Wedding Cake.

By: Owen Badua

Food is an important part of any celebration be it birthday, anniversary, wedding or any other type of social event. Wedding cakes will be the topic of this article. Two people who want to share the beginning of their union with family and friends, do this with a wedding. There is an enormous amount of preparation for this day and people want to eat and drink while there. The wedding cake is often the focal point of the event. Sometimes it's thought to be bad luck not to enjoy a slice of wedding cake.
Traditionally, there are rules of cutting a wedding cake. For instance, at a wedding reception, it is traditional to cut the wedding cake just before dessert is served, if the wedding reception takes place during lunch or the dinner hour. However, if the reception is held during tea or cocktails, the cake is cut just after all of the guests arrive. It is tradition for the bride and groom to cut and eat the first slice together, as a symbol of their choice to be together. A family member or the maid of honor will slice the remainder of the cake.
Selecting a wedding cake is a challenge. Traditionally, wedding cakes have both white cake and frosting. In this day and age, couples are choosing their favorite flavor. This has those who provide cakes and also those who decorate them striving to give a bigger selection of cakes. The most popular flavors for wedding cakes today are chocolate, marble, yellow, pound, and fruit.

Some wedding cakes offer a different flavor for each layer. Though white icing is still available to be ordered, there is now a larger selection of frostings to choose from. Wedding cake decorations come in flavors as diverse as lemon, chocolate, mocha and anything else your imagination can dream up. It is possible to customize your cake using all of your favorite flavors. How the wedding cake is decorated is a personal choice as well. You can have just about anything you can dream up put on a wedding cake including, fruit and even real edible flowers.
The wedding reception is the most anticipated part of the wedding. Everyone anticipates the cutting and sharing of the wedding cake. It symbolizes good will, and a hope that the bride and groom will be prosperous and fertile together.
There are many options available for you to pursue becoming a cake decorator. There are hundreds of books out there that will teach you how to decorate cakes, from the simple to the ornate. There are a number of instructional DVD's that one can purchase to learn how to decorate a cake step-by-step.
The best way to learn how to decorate a cake is to attend a class. While DVD's, videos, and books are highly popular and informative, taking a class will help you move along faster. The guidance from the teacher is immediate and they can point out where you are going wrong and thus save your project from getting ruined completely.
