Ignatius Piazza started Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in 1996 to give to others the confidence and skill he had gotten in his 8 straight years of firearms training. He started on this journey after a drive-by shooting in 1988 left him uninjured, but certain that he couldn't really defend himself or his home, even though he owned handguns and practiced with them. Dr. Ignatius Piazza traveled, studied, and practiced, and achieved excellence in his gun handling and marksmanship. But he knew most people would not have the chance to put in years to gain the proficiency that he had. So while learning, he observed the many methods of teaching, and ultimately put the best of the best together when he founded Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. Front Sight Firearms Training Institute now trains more people in a year than all the other top schools combined. But what does this have to do with respect between the professionals, and the people they are trained to protect? Front Sight's graduates are so good that in challenging shooting competitions, the "ordinary" citizens who have taken courses at Front Sight win at least half the time! How can that happen? It's possible because the training at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is designed to take anyone from whatever skill level they are at, being better than most people who carry a gun for a living. There is no boot camp mentality or drill instructor attitude just patient and informed training and drilling. It does not matter if the student has ever handled a weapon before, or if he or she is a professional. In the competitions sponsored at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, the professionals can see for themselves the skills that ordinary law-abiding citizens have learned by coming to the courses at Front Sight. So if the 13-year-old or the grandma wins, the handgun pro knows why: Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. And win they do! Dr. Ignatius Piazza observed about the competitions, "What was equally great to see behind the scenes was the camaraderie and mutual respect that developed between the private citizens and cops. At the end of every show there were lots of handshakes and invitations to visit each other if ever traveling through their respective towns." Having gained similar skills and undergone similar on-site challenges, the cops and public can come to appreciate what they've accomplished. Taking this out to their home towns, private citizens will have a better idea of the day-to-day challenges involved with police duties, and will be far less likely to become a statistic themselves because of their training. The professionals training at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute benefit from knowing that there are more and more not-so-ordinary people, getting self defense training that will help them understand and cooperate with police. Better coordination and safer streets can't help but be the results from the skills and certainty gained at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. Dr. Ignatius Piazza's goal of forwarding his hard-won skill to others has become a success. Today, the Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in Nevada teaches students as young as 5 how to keep themselves safe from predators, teaches teens about keeping out of trouble on the Internet, all the way to long term marksmen and military professionals. Together they are working to make their places of business, their homes and the streets safer. In this goal, both private citizens and the law enforcement professionals find agreement.
