Kitchen Restyling Tips

By:

Are you planning to remodel your kitchen? If you are, here are some constructive Feng Shui tips that may be useful to you.

In Feng Shui, the stove, microwave and other similar items are characterized as the ‘fire’ element. On the other hand, the fridge, wash basin and other similar devices are classified as ‘water’ elements. There is a clash or destructive relationship between ‘fire’ and ‘water’ which is not desirable.

Therefore you should make sure that they are not install next to and in close proximity. It is good to leave a space of between 1-2 feet between these items. They, especially the stove and wash basin, should not oppose each other directly. You can lay them side by side (1-2 feet apart) or perpendicular to each other. The stove should also be set against a wall.

While the kitchen is categorized as ‘fire’, the toilet is classified as ‘water’. To make sure that they do not conflict you should ensure that the stove is not place against a wall that is shared with the toilet and especially so if the WC is exactly on the opposite side. It is also considered unfavorable form if the stove faces the door that opens into the toilet directly. You can either relocate the door or of there are no other solutions, install an automatic door closer so that the door into the toilet is always closed.

The overhead beam is postulated to exert a downward force that can have a detrimental effect on someone sitting or standing below for long periods. When you are finding a suitable position for the stove, make sure that the person cooking is not placed directly underneath the beam.

In some designs, the kitchen is directly below a bedroom upstairs. You should position the stove so that it is not exactly below the bed upstairs. Or you can reposition the bed upstairs so that it is not directly on top of stove. It is also potentially possible that the toilet upstairs is directly above the stove or oven. You should relocate them if this happens.

The kitchen is ‘fire’. Hence when you are selecting a color scheme for the kitchen, you should not create more fire by chossing red or orange tiles or painting the walls red. You should also be easy on green as it represents ‘wood’ which is a fuel to fire! Instead you should select color schemes that ‘moderates’ fire, such as blue (representing water), yellow (representing earth) and white (representing metal).

In Feng Shui, ‘qi’ comes from all directions and they are not static. Some of these ‘qi’ are good and some are not. The inauspicious ones can be activated by renovation works. We should be aware where they are and not carry out renovation when they affect a certain area. For example it goes into the NE in 2007 and you should not carry out extensive renovation works in the NE sector of the house in 2007. In 2008, the afflicted sector is S and this is followed by N, SW, E, SE, Center, NW and W. The cycle then repeats itself.
