Patsy’s Story
Patsy did not die of cancer.

When I got the call that my mom had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had 6 weeks to live, naturally, I was devastated. I thought my world was going to come crashing in around me.
Visits to my parents were few and far between when I was a young adult; five, six years passed in between visits. But when I turned 30, something between us just clicked. One day, mom and I stayed up all night talking. As the sun came up and we were going to go to sleep, she said to me, “You know this is the first time we’ve ever talked for so long and talked like friends talk to each other.”
My mother Patsy loved our friendship and she loved the friendship she shared with my sister. She liked to say that the greatest reward she had in her life was the fact that her girls and her were friends. So from that point on my mother was my best, and at many times, my only friend.
I told a 10 year old girl I was taking care of that my mother was my best friend and she said, “Everyone’s mother is their best friend!” It was such a simple concept even a child could understand it.
So when I got the news I was losing my mother, my best and only friend, I didn’t think I would be able to handle it. My wonderful husband said, “Let’s not accept this. There are natural remedies that are keeping people with cancer alive, why don’t you find out what you can do for her and we’ll do it.”
It just so happened that I had been studying natural medicine, natural healing, eating right and healthy foods for 2 years. Since the Doctor said she had 6 weeks to live, there was no time to waste. I already contained a lot of the knowledge inside of me that was going to be necessary to save her life.
Right away my husband and I went to Oregon where she was living. When we got there Mother said to everyone, “I want to do what Janet says. She’s in charge.” No one questioned that and the family that was there to help take care of her gave me their support.
In the beginning of her illness I was scared all the time. I didn’t know if it would work or not and this was my Mother. When we first saw her there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Doctor’s prediction could have very well been true. She was very sick. It seemed like it was over. It seemed like a bad dream from which you can’t wake up.
But it did work. In hardly any time, you could see an improvement. She was out of bed and sitting up within days. Within 2 weeks we knew something was working. The color came back to her checks; she didn’t look or feel so sick and she was up and around, doing things.
She lived for another 3 years. This time was precious to her. Plus, she didn’t live a life that was filled with sickness and despair. No, not Patsy. She got out and did things. And she didn't die of cancer.
She was always on the go. As soon as she’d get back from one trip to visit friends or relatives, she’d get back to her home just long enough to reconnect there and she’d be off on another trip.
She’d go to the beach and hiking and things like that. She was definitely not the sick- stay in bed type of cancer person one would expect. She wasn’t just hanging on. She was really living life to the fullest.
How did I know how to help her? As mentioned, I had been studying for 2 years already. I knew her body had to be able to heal itself and in its present condition it couldn’t do that. My plan was for her to cleanse her colon, cleanse her blood and cleanse her liver. The blood is a major life giving organism and the liver and the colon are necessary to clean the body of all the toxins encountered in life so that the rest of the body can function.
That was the immediate plan which pulled her away from death’s door. After that we worked on other things that improved her quality of life. Besides the vitamins, herbs and antioxidants she needed to support her body the above mentioned organs and blood had to be dealt with. Her needs were specific and what I tailored sprang from that.
She itched all the time. She thought her liver was causing this. In the past she had had problems with her liver. I knew that the depletion of linoleic acid in your body will make you itch. We put 1 Tbs of safflower oil into her morning shake and within days her itching stopped. Safflower oil has the highest content of linoleic acid, although there are other good oils too.
Whenever she had a problem, I found the solution. She had sores on her tongue and nothing tasted good and most things she ate burned her tongue. I had her drink aloe juice. Before she swallowed it she would swish it around in her mouth; within days the sores started to go away.
Of her own volition, she declined any kind of radiation therapy. We were both of the opinion that radiation depletes the body of its ability to heal itself. Anyone deciding this course has to search deep into their hearts. This was her decision and I didn’t say anything one way or another until she had already said that wasn’t part of her plan for herself.
My mother had her own home in Cave Junction, Oregon; a beautiful town with mountains and trees. She loved trees very dearly. She would not say yes to any of her children when they tried to talk her into moving in with them. All 5 of us offered.
Every one of us, tried our hardest to say, “Come live with me. Please!” But she wouldn’t give up her independence, which is another thing I admired her for. She took care of herself throughout this whole ordeal. When she was first diagnosed, her sister Catherine went to live with her until she could see that Patsy was going to live.
