Sonography is the art of reading digital images that are produced by sound bouncing off the organs and tissues of the body showing different areas of the body. Most of the time Sonography is used on pregnant women to see a developing fetus in the womb and to check the growth and development of a fetus throughout a pregnancy. Sonography is also used to see tissue and organs in the body and can be very helpful when doctors are trying to diagnose a health problem. Reading a sonogram is tricky and only trained technicians are really qualified to read a sonogram. A Sonography degree can train you to be a Sonographer. Once you have a Sonography degree and are certified you can choose to work in Obstetrics reading sonograms for pregnant women or you can choose to go into one of the advanced areas of Sonography. If you love science and would like to work in health care then Sonography could be a very rewarding career for you. There is a huge demand of qualified and trained Sonographers that have a Sonography degree so you would be entering an industry with practically unlimited potential for growth and advancement. Once you have a Sonography degree you can choose to work in a hospital, with doctors in private practice, or in a diagnostic laboratory working with doctors to identify various medial conditions and ailments in patients.

Radiology and Sonography are closely related and some Sonography degree programs require you to have at least a two year degree or a certificate in Radiology before you can apply for a Sonography degree program. Getting a Sonography degree required advanced study in ultrasound technology and science so if you are not a person that enjoys science or has aptitude for science then Sonography might not be the right career for you but if you love science and you can easily understand technology and scientific principles then a Sonography degree program could be a very fun and rewarding program for you. If you don't want to work directly with patients once you have a Sonography degree you can go on and get a Masters degree or you can choose to go into medical research or technological research. There are many different career paths open to anyone with a Sonography degree. Health care is one industry where there is expected to be a shortage of workers that could exceed 800,000 in the next ten years so if you want to choose an industry where you will always be able to find a job then choosing to pursue a health care industry degree like a Sonography degree will put you in a position to get a great job when you have your Sonography degree.
