Maintain your Humidor or else

By: Trevor Wallace

Cigars are meant to be enjoyed for a long time and at times, we may buy them by in bulk. If this is the case, it is necessary to make sure that we keep them as fresh as possible in order for the enjoyment to be at its maximum. We should be able to enjoy the last cigar out of a box just as much as we enjoy the first. Unfortunately, the elements both inside and outside can play a damaging role on a fine cigar. That is why it is necessary to keep them in it cigar humidor so that they are kept as fresh as the day you first bought them.

The most important thing is the humidity level that your cigars must be stored at and making sure your humidor can maintain that level. It should be stored between seventy to seventy five degrees fahrenheit. Anything higher or lower than that will not work at all. 70 to 75 degrees is the temperature in Cuba, ideal for Cuban cigars. I guess you can say that little humidor of yours is like little personal Cuba. A nice thought to entertain, I certainly think like that and an attitude like that will make you take care of your Cuban cigars too.

After that, make sure that you have separate gauges to make sure your humidor doesn't go off track. Gauges to monitor the temperature and the humidity. The fancier humidors come with this feature and you can even have a 'on the go' remote. So in case the temperature changes, you can fix it immediately even if you are away from your humidor. Once you press the button on this remote, it automatically adjusts the humidity level using the water within the humidor. So you do have various options when it comes to maintaining your Cuban cigars.

At times, it is necessary for you to recharge your cigar humidor. This is a very important part of the cigar humidor maintenance process. You would maintain this by adding an activation solution every couple of months as needed. There is an entire process that is involved in doing this and you should see the instructions that are included when you buy the solution. Finally, you should test the calibration on occasion to make sure that it is testing out okay. If you do find that it is off, there is typically a way to adjust the hygrometer in order to bring it back into alignment.

Taking good care of your humidor is just one way of taking good care of your cigars. If you are in the habit of buying fine cigars, make sure that you are able to enjoy each and every one of them. Store your cigars properly and they will last you for quite some time until you are able to kick back and watch them go up in smoke.
