Melaleuca Sales Secrets Revealed

By: Diane Voisley

If mlm distributors really knew that they had to "sell" products in order to become successful would they still join the network marketing company? Most times, the answer is "no". People don't like the idea of having to peddle products or ask friends and family to join them in their business venture. Melaleuca distributors are distracted from the reality that they are in the sales business by being taught that they're not selling, they're sharing! This very idea sets a foundation for failure in this business because the distributor doesn't have a clue that the real problem is "HOW" they are selling to people.

The first consequence is this. There isn't proper sales training for Melaleuca product distributors to begin with. If Melaleuca, Inc. is preaching that there aren't sales involved with their business, then obviously there isn't a need for any type of real sales skills. As a result, the distributors are thrown into the lion's den totally unprepared to market their products and opportunity.

The "sharing" concept sets Melaleuca business owners up for failure. Owners are made to think that selling is a piece of cake and that it's simple and easy to do. They're made to think that anyone can sell if it's sharing and all they need to do is put a little excitement in their approach. When they actually get out there and attempt to "share" with family and friends, they find that they actually get met with rejection, disappointment and even feelings of bewilderment. So what happened? They did everything they were taught to do and it didn't work!

Most people hate to sell. The Melaleuca Company knows this, so their idea of motivating distributors is to sugarcoat the notion of selling and replace it with the idea of sharing. They want their distributors to believe that anyone can do this business. If the distributors had to go through an extensive sales training program, many of them would drop out of the business. Here's the reality. If you are in network marketing, (the keyword being marketing) you are in sales!

If you want to be a successful mlm distributor you need to understand this. Selling is not sharing and sharing is not selling. Sharing is what pre-schoolers do. I know what you're thinking right now. "But I thought word of mouth advertising was the most powerful form of advertising out there?" My answer is yes and no. Yes, people's personal recommendations can be very powerful when they don't have a financial interest involved. When potential customers or prospects realize that distributors are making money out of the deal, their guard immediately goes up. Because an incentivized referral is completely different than an unbiased, third party opinion.

It all boils down to this. To be successful in the Melaleuca home based business and in network marketing, you have to learn effective sales skills and techniques. Realizing this is the first critical step towards retail success with Melaleuca, the wellness company. You have to understand the sales process and what really motivates people. What makes them get out of bed in the morning? What keeps them awake at night? When it comes to selling, too much attention is paid to the product itself, rather than the customer who is doing the buying. Because chances are your prospect or customer doesn't really care about helping you out, they want to know what's in it for them.

Here's the sales process. Find out what your customer's needs are first and then provide a solution (with the solution being your product or Melaleuca opportunity). Many distributors have this process backwards. They start by trying to introduce the product first without ever really finding out if a prospect even needs it or is looking for it. How many times have you poured over product specs reading ingredients and health benefits? Knowing that information is great, but it does you no good if your prospect has no need for the product? The main idea here is to stop placing an emphasis on the product and start placing an emphasis on determining your customer's needs. Once you do that, you will find that your business will begin to solidly grow as the people who are in it want the products and even better want the opportunity that you provide.
