New Christmas traditions

Traditions should have stared at some point of time before they became traditions. Traditions are nothing but a certain custom or practice that is performed time and again generation after generation for a certain value that practice stands for. As we are busy with our fast paced lives we have no time to think about traditions of our families and that is how we have lost them. Our future generations too will grow up without any traditions because we have forgotten to follow the ones those have been handed down to us by our parents. It is nice to have traditional practices that are specific to our family. It does not matter that we have lost our traditional practices; we can still create nice practices that we can follow during our life time, teach and hand it over to the next generation for them to follow.

Christmas is a beautiful time to come up with some nice traditional practices. These practices need not be and should not be difficult ones to follow, they should be fun. It can be anything that we will always do every Christmas. Tradition is not just about hanging Christmas ornaments on our Christmas trees or putting out the Christmas lights or cooking a big meal. We can make more meaningful traditions for ourselves.

Here are some ideas for your consideration you can come up with your own ideas inspired by the ones below.

They entire family can save a certain amount of money each day of the Christmas tide and can pool in all the money to buy a gift for an orphan kid. This can be a moving experience for the entire family. This will help the family to get in touch with harsher side of reality. We learn to pool in all our resources together as a family, for a common cause. We also learn to be generous and this simple gesture of generosity will bring some happiness in an orphan kid’s life.

Traditional practices need not be this serious always. It can be something as light as gathering for a family meal and each member of the family sharing with the rest of the family members all that had happened in each one’s life since last Christmas, their success stories, their failures, their joyous moments and the saddest moments and so on. This practice will help in gaining greater understanding between the family members because every one is so busy in their own world we fail notice or pay attention to what is happening in the lives of our family members even though we happen to live under the same roof. This practice will also teach us to listen to others and not always preoccupied with our life. You will also be able to gain insight into each family member’s personality, their strengths and talents etc.
So you can come up with endless ideas like these one’s that is suitable for your family and that will make more sense to your family members. Certain ideas that we borrow from others would be good to listen to, but it may not be for us. So get creative and have your own traditions created this Christmas. Do not stop decorating your Christmas trees with Christmas ornaments and Christmas lights. Do not forget to get gifts for your loved ones, but along with all these also have one more meaningful practice that will unite your family.
