Planning a Vacation on a Budget

By: Mr. Jeff Nelson

Using a budget can be very useful when trying to plan a family vacation. If you work hard enough you can save a ton of money booking on your trip, and you will feel much more relaxed during it because you won’t be worrying about how expensive your trip is. The most important step when beginning to start to plan your budget for your family vacation is to plan ahead. This is very important because the further out you book any flight, or event the less money it will cost. It will cost less because it is easier for hotels and airlines to book seats for a flight at least six months before because then they aren’t scrambling to find room to accommodate you. Also, you will find cheaper deals when booking a flight if you are flexible when it comes to your departure and arrival times. It is also very common to find very good deals on airlines during off-peak hours, such as flights in the middle of the day or in the early evening and also during off-season times for example going to Florida in August. Booking during off-season and off-peak times will help you stay within your budget.

The second most important thing to keep in mind that will help keep your budget low is to shop around. The first deals that you come across are normally not the cheapest; if you do a lot of research in advance you should be able to find a great deal for your family. Sometimes the most popular areas that people want to travel to are very expensive but many of surrounding towns are not as expensive. You are more likely to get a lower price estimate for a hotel room or rental house that is on the outskirts of a major city or area attraction.

If you are traveling outside of the country to areas such as Mexico it also really pays off if you stay at all-inclusive resorts. With many of these all-inclusive resorts the airfare is already included. This also can be very beneficial because if you are planning on going to the beach many resorts in Mexico are already on the ocean on private beaches, you aren’t going to want to leave your resort to go to another. It also helps that the resort you are at is all-inclusive, and you will be given all of the food and drinks you want while lounging at your vacation spot.

Using discount cards such as AAA can also save you a tremendous amount of money when on vacation. Discount cards not only can save you money at hotels but can also save you money at huge area attractions like water parks, amusement parks, and historical sites. In some areas discount cards can help you get a discount on car rentals and RV rentals. Many of these great deals are basically free through basic services that you may already have, many people overlook these great opportunities when planning a family vacation on a budget.
