So if you haven't been keeping up with the constant barrage of blue updates indicating the end of season 2 is near, then you could have easily guessed it was approaching due to the total lack of arena being played. Now I understand that players are going to play fewer and fewer games as the season winds down. Though why this slow day has to begin more than two months before the estimated end of the season is beyond me. In order to try and play teams with comparable rating my arena teams have tried queuing at a wide variety of times throughout the week. Weekday evenings, weekend days, weekend evenings, whatever the time, it doesn't seem to matter. The closest teams we play are typically 150-200 rating lower than us. 55% of the top 20 teams on Reckoning didn't play any games at all during the past week. Most teams that did play only played a minimum 10 in order to gain points for the week. I thought that perhaps the legendary battlegroup one might be different, though even there where competition is supposed to be on a higher level, only 55% of the top 20 teams played. Who could blame all of these teams for not wanting to play? It's the primary reason why my 5v5 team has begun to slow down our games. There is absolutely nothing to gain, and everything to lose. By this point in the season everyone has their gear completed and is simply saving towards that 5,000 arena point cap. Honestly, it's quite sad that rating and rank means so much that it completely inhibits late season play. Beyond all of that, I'm getting pumped up for the beginning of arena season 3. Completely new armor sets always give players motivation to play again. I really hope Blizzard learns from this season's very long length and doesn't make the same mistakes in the future. With such a lack of content and achievable objectives many players are just flat out board, though I'm hopeful that patch 2.3 will reenergize many facets of the game for all players.
