Seven Types Of Membership Sites You Can Start Today

By: Robert Paul Williams

You want a website that will bring in a regular monthly income with a reasonable amount of up keep after the momentum has been built. You've heard that owning and operating a membership site will bring you just that and more if you really apply yourself. Before jumping headlong into such a prospect, consider which of the seven types of membership sites is best suited for you.

Here are the seven barebones type of membership sites:

1. Coaching/ Mentoring Sites. These sites typically offer enrollees the benefit of expert advice exclusively available online covering just about any topic you can conceive. For example, learning to play gospel music on the piano by ear is a thriving membership site. It allows the owner/piano teacher to pass on his skills to a huge audience.

2. Private Label Rights. PLR sites provide a variety of articles focused around one specific keyword, phrase or concept. These articles can then legally be modified. For this reason, many webmasters or bloggers subscribe to PLR sites to increase their own site's content or to create their own ebooks or site items.

3. Social Sites. Obviously this kind of site has become immensely popular in recent times with the incredible growth of friendship and 'dating' sites but they can also be designed to enable, say, dog lovers, Harley riders, or people with any other characteristics, hobbies or lifestyle choices to communicate with each other.

4. Content Sites. One of the most marketable kind of membership sites, in that it presents its members with up-to-date information and resources with regard to a specific topic. This is customarily a highly specialized area in which the information provided would not be so readily available from other sources. Members will pay a regular subscription fee so that they can have immediate access to this site and its updated information.

5. Paid Newsletter. This is also a type of paid monthly membership service that has probably been around the longest. A writer or website owner would bring together specific content that is related to a particular theme. The membership benefits by having all the up to date information readily accessible to them without having to sort through various media outlets to find the same information.

6. Message Boards or Forums. Most are accessible at no charge. Visitors typically utilize message boards and forums to post information or to browse around and see what visitors have posted. Some areas of the forum can be made available for a low membership fee. This can be rather difficult unless you provide your visitors with information that they'd be willing to pay for.

7. Content Delivered by Video or Audio. Sites with video or audio files are being made available as additional content on other types of membership sites, similar in a way to business to business marketing.

As you can see, there are several types of membership sites that you can start. Use your imagination as the aforementioned are just the basic types. You can always create your own hybrid style membership site.
