The Apple iPhone 3G - heralding a paradigm shift for mobile phones?

Unveiled on June 9th, the improved Apple iPhone 3G is causing just as many waves as its predecessor did. But is it better than simply a phone; is it in fact triggering a whole new quantum leap in the business of mobile phones?
What makes the iPhone series so different?
Back in 2007, a mobile phone was unveiled that caused one of the biggest splashes in the history of mobile phones. As you probably guessed, that phone was the iPhone, touted as Apple's new mega-device, something that would sell more than any other mobile phones in the universe. Fans called it a touchscreen masterpiece, and the single greatest phone ever made, but looked at objectively, was the iPhone really the revolutionary super-phone they say it is (or do we need to wait for the Apple iPhone 3G for that)? Was it actually that different to other mobile phones?
To be fair to the iPhone, predecessor of the new Apple iPhone 3G, it was one of the best-looking mobile phones ever designed. It did look stunning, and it's easy to see why people adore its looks. Then, of course, there is that huge touchscreen, making it the first device in the pantheon of mobile phones to utilise multi-touch, basically letting you prod multiple places on the screen at a time. Why was that good? Think back to the 'pinchy-motion' on the iPhone (which you also have on the Apple iPhone 3G), that let you zoom in or out on photos. That's why multi-touch is great, and why from that perspective, it beat other mobile phones. But the iPhone was flawed; it was missing some things that ruined the whole experience, and the most worrying of those things was 3G, the fast data standard that most mobile phones in the UK have. It was definitely a glaring omission!
But now, there's a new incarnation of the iPhone... and this version, to let it compete with other mobile phones, DOES have 3G. Say welcome to the brand new Apple iPhone 3G.
Apple iPhone 3G - better than all other mobile phones?
Now that the Apple iPhone 3G's been released, we finally get to see how it will answer the challenge set down by other mobile phones. And yes, with this new version, an iPhone finally gets 3G, meaning you get a fast data speed, without having to hunt down a hot spot. It can finally compete against other mobile phones on an equal level. Ok, sure, its camera remains, well, not good at all, but with the changes made to the phone, and the new, discounted price, it's eminently clear that the Apple iPhone 3G has got what it takes to make the big names in the world of mobile phones very edgy, and then force them to up their game, bringing about that new world order for mobile phones!
