The Chinese Crested is one of the newfound exotic dogs for those who love little dogs. A little dog, the chinese crested dog is noted for its short hair. This cutey dons a bald body, with a leonine mane (crest) of medium, smooth hair on the dog's head, hocks, pasterns and tail. The "Powder Puff" Chinese Crested has smooth hair all over. Colors cover the entire spectrum of standard dog fur shades. A full-grown adult male or female dog will grow to 11 to 13 inches of height. This little dog is similar in size and body-type to the Chihuahua.

Small canines are usually very common with apartment dwellers since they take up little space and are easy to live with in an urban environment. This little canine commonly thrives on quiet home-living, most particularly in colder climates. Dogs with no hair like this one are not well suited for outdoor living and cold temperatures. So if the Chinese Crested catches your fancy, look for the Powder Puff type with a full hair coat that will help keep your dog warm during the chilly months. Owners living in hot climates will find the hairless Crested canine to be ideal, but sunscreen is a must if the dog is exposed to direct sun for any length of the day. Skin allergies are common with this puppy, so be aware of unusual reactions and treat them promptly at your local vet.
