Tips to get Professional and cost effective corporate logo designs.

By: Jessica Thomson

v Logo of your company creates a unique visual identity for you in your absence and distinguishes you from among your competitors. It helps reduce your marketing efforts and bears better results. So your logo should be able to create an unforgettable impression in the market and communicate your image effectively.

This necessitates the need for getting your corporate logo designed professionally.

These tips help you make sure that you get a professionally designed logo:

1. Spend some time to review the business cards/letter heads/logos of different business houses. Assess them and make notes why you like them or don't like them.
2. Consider your own logo - what would you like it to be or not to be.
3. Narrow down on graphics, colours and fonts. Each colour has a meaning and message and so are fonts. Select them carefully. Do not over crowd with graphics - keep them simple but comprehensive. A logo can be an illustrative logo, a graphic logo or a font based logo.
4. Create a couple of options and then finalise on one-sometimes you may like part of this and part of that. In that case try creating a new one combining the best of all worlds.
5. If possible try to create mock-ups to help you decide visually.
6. Always create your logo in a vector base format so that you will be able to scale it. - make sure your logo doesn't get distorted while scaling.
7. Try your logo on different backgrounds.
8. If you have a strap line text, keep it separate from the logo graphics so that if the strap line text changes at a later date, it can be implemented in the logo easily.
9. Know your budgets. Determine in what areas/media your logo is going to be used. This will have a major bearing on the design of your logo.
10. Your Corporate Logo Design should be elegant and apprecciated by all the company memebers.

You can decide on designing your logo yourself or hiring a graphic designer to design it for you. In either case you need to do these exercises because it will help in briefing the designer as to what exactly you expect from him and in getting what exactly you wanted.

Whether you want to revamp your existing logo or consider creating a new logo you need consider the following points before you finalise your logo.

Ask yourself :

1. Does your logo communicate the image of your company and its business effectively.
2. Does it work while printing both large and small formats - like banners and hand outs and also your business card.
3. Is it capable of drawing a second glance from your prospective customers and create interest.
4. Does it work when you print in black and white as well as in colour.
5. Are the colours used in the logo match the nature of your business.
