Trip Travel Insurance is Worth the Cost

By: Steven Milstone

Investing in trip travel insurance is well worth it. It will give you immediate coverage in the event of a medical emergency, loss of travel funds, or other unfortunate and unexpected travel surprises. It will provide for you or anyone else you list on the policy.

Your current medical policy may cover medical emergencies while traveling out of the immediate area or you may be required to pay out of your own pocket and wait months to be reimbursed. Your travel agent my offer trip travel insurance to cover flight cancellations or natural disasters such as hurricanes.

If you are purchasing a single trip policy make sure you are covered for enough time. Add a few days to the start of the trip for coverage in case of early cancellation and a few days after you are due to return in case you have to stay a few extra days.

Travel insurance comes in both single trip and annual policies, both have their strong and weak points. You'll want to think about which best suits your needs. Do you travel frequently? If so, an annual policy may be the best choice for you. If you do not travel so often, and just want some peace of mind for that long-planned vacation, a single trip policy is likely the way to go. Depending on the company offering the policy, different circumstances may or may not be covered. Like any important purchase, shopping around is the way to go.

Both types of trip travel insurance policy will generally cover sickness or injuries that happen while you are on a trip, along with other types of emergencies (such as the aforementioned evacuations, even to the point of transport home if required). Common travel woes like lost baggage, delays and cancellations are standard in trip travel insurance policies also.

There's nothing worse than having one's trip canceled due to unforeseeable circumstances and losing non-refundable fees that have already been paid.

An annual policy would give the assurance that you would not lose any of your deposits or other prepaid expenses on any trip you plan or take during the year.

Do some research on the web to find adequate insurance for trips. Make sure it covers not only medical emergencies but financial loss and trip cancellation.
