Vitamin A And Healthy Skin Nutrition

By: Sara Musfeldt

If you have a skin ailment, or any physical ailment for that matter, you should evaluate your diet to find a solution. Often times those that suffer from acne or dry/flaky skin also lack vitamin A in their diet, something a quick nutrition evaluation will reveal. In order to rebuild cells, which is necessary in maintaining healthy skin, vitamin A is critical.

The nutrient you consume from food is considered pre-vitamin A, which is also referred to as retinol and beta-carotene. Once you have enough pre-vitamin A in your body, your system will create its own vitamin A. So be sure to consume the right animal products and vegetables so that your body has what it needs. For optimal vitamin A consumption take a daily supplement of no more than 25,000 international units (more vitamin A is toxic).

This is a list of foods high in vitamin A:

Spinach

Sweet potatoes

Carrots

Cantaloupe

Mangoes

Liver

Beef

Egg yolks

Milk

Mozzarella cheese

With the right amounts in your system, the benefits of vitamin A are plentiful including hydrated skin with no flaking and quickly healed pimples and lesions. Also, studies prove that there is a link between those with low levels of vitamin A and severe acne. To benefit from vitamin A, acne sufferers should take a supplement, modify their diet, and use topical skin care products that contain vitamin A, or retinol.

In addition to being a good part of your skin fitness and overall fitness, vitamin A is also excellent for your bone strength, immune system, digestive system, eyesight, and last but not least, it's an antioxidant.
