Contacting funeral homes in Canada and the United States, I was hoping to get some thoughts on how one should deal with a death of a loved one during the holiday season.

The Setting: Some out-of-town family decides to visit you during the Christmas holidays.

A visiting relative passes away while he or she is staying at your place.

Questions that was brought up was: 1) Should you plan the funeral right away? 2) If I contact the life insurance company do I have to pay right away? 3) Do you contact the deceased's life insurance company right away?
