What Model Railroading Clubs Can Offer You

By: Bill Murphy

Many hobbies have clubs where fellow hobbyists can get together - us humans like to share knowledge and get further insight into things we enjoy. Pooling our knowledge and skills in a club helps everyone involved. No more reinventing the wheel for every single model railroader!

There are hundreds or even thousands of model railroading clubs around the world. This hobby is hardly an obscure, fringe group of people.

Clubs such as the LCCA - the Lionel Collectors Club of America - offer many resources and forums for their members to share their love of model trains, something that would be more difficult without the club to bring them all together.

You can also find many different types of model railroading clubs - far more choices than just the number of scales. For example, a link at Railserve.com lists more than 150 different clubs from all over the world, each with their own focus and speciality.

No matter what the focus, however, they all have something in common - a love of model railroading and a desire to improve the hobby for everyone involved. You'll see plenty of benefit from joining a club if you're interested in learning more about model trains.

After all, Rome wasn't built in a day and most certainly not by one single engineer!

Whether you're interested in collecting classic equipment, prototyping real-world layouts or just have a general interest in anything related to model railroading, you'll find a club that suits you.

You'll be glad you took the time to connect with them. There's nothing wrong with working on your own, but sharing your skills with others while learning from them at the same time is a lot more satisfying.
