If you are one of those who have teen braces - with all the wires and the metal brackets - you probably know just how hard it is to brush your teeth. You might have some discomfort when eating. Many teens find it troublesome to brush their teeth, and might be annoyed that they have to watch what they eat all the time. Remember an important factor in achieving straight teeth faster and to making sure that your braces last you until the end of your treatment, you have to take responsibility in keeping your braces, your teeth and your gums healthy. While orthodontist care is very important, taking care of your braces through flossing and brushing on your own is just as important. Watching What to Eat Your orthodontist probably has told you that there are certain foods that you just can't have with teen braces. These are mostly foods that are hard or sticky, foods like popcorn, gum, chips and peanuts. By eating hard foods you run the risk of breaking your teen braces, so avoid them at all costs. Sticky foods, on the other hand, will tend to get particles trapped inside metal brackets which may be very difficult to remove. It’s also not advisable to put anything hard inside your mouth, which includes pens or pencils and even ice. Apples and carrots can also lead to problems, so it might be best to avoid them. Brushing Your Braces Many teens have difficulties brushing their braces. Remember that brushing teeth very well is the only way to ensure that you don’t only get straight teeth, but a great looking and a healthy smile as well. Your teen braces will have little compartments which are excellent places for bacteria and plaque to hide. Before you know it, you have tooth decay. You can avoid these enemies and have better chances for straight teeth in less time by brushing your teeth the right way. As often as possible, brush your teeth after meal or snack. Each and every part of your teeth, along with the crevices of your teen braces will need to be cleaned thoroughly. Teen braces are not hard to maintain. But, you need to be dilegent. If you are having difficulties taking care of them, you are not alone.
