Wireless email solutions – the latest trendsetter in the world of mobiles

By: Bjorn Olav Jonsson

The wireless emailing technology is going to become a trendsetter in next two to three years. This is not any estimation by any human giving their own opinion but a fact presented by a survey conducted by Frost and Sullivan. This survey has predicted that the popularity of wireless email system will be at its highest by the year 2010 or 2011. There are over one hundred million cell phone users in the world who are holding one or two email accounts. So, it becomes very obvious that some day or the other, they will require an equipment to check their email wherever they are. They will need a device which can enable them to read and write emails right from their mobile handsets. Today, mobile phones are used more to chat uselessly or send SMSs. But in future this will change. Let’s see how?

Right now there are more than 10 million people who are frequently using their mobile phone to check their emails. But very less consumers, i.e. without internet enabled phone wants to access their account through their handsets. They prefer SMS rather than composing, sending or reading mails. The reason is that it is comparatively tough to type on mobile without a QWERTY keyboard. Some mobile applications like Voice Signal and vEnable allows you to type the message by speaking it out. Some applications like Tegic worked in the way like guessing the word you want to write and displaying it on your device.

Smart phones or phones on which emails can be checked have a very smartly designed QWERTY keypad which makes typing the mails and replying it lot easier. These phones are also installed with software to enable efficient typing. Examples of such phones are Palm, MS Mobile, Symbian or Blackberry. Most of these mobile phones and smart phones are used in business sector and because of this; these phones are designed in a way so that they are comfortable while accessing consumer email systems. It is estimated that this market is well set and will grow at a huge speed in some time from now.

Wireless emailing software will also play a huge role in increasing this speed of users of this wireless email technology enabled phones. Infact, it’s a huge challenge for them to handle and support such a big amount of new mobile phones coming in the market that are complied with this technology. They do this by automating the migration process to newer models of phones and also the testing of these phones with mobile handsets available for testing over the internet.

It is estimated by Frost and Sullivan that the way users are getting used to this technology, there will be no surprise if the number of the users of this technology crosses 100 million in next five or six years. It has been calculated that there are more than 10 million users worldwide and the speed of growing is 30 percent per annum. It is wished that the day is not far when emailing will also become the most common thing to be associated with mobile handsets along with SMS and IM [instant messaging] and will be used by every second person you meet on the street.
