You Know Feng Shui - Is It Useful?

By: Paul zayer

Are you a believer in energy? Is there a form of energy flowing everywhere? There are many studies made regarding all sorts of energies actually. One of them is called art of Feng Shui.

Ancient Chinese philosophy is an inspiration to some individuals and mere superstition to others. There is a lot of interest in the practice of Feng Shui, both in the East and in the West. The guidelines influence every part of life for individuals who believe in it. Lately, the New Age movement has been influenced by elements such as wind chimes and crystals.

The core of the philosophy is the energy flow or lack of it. The flow is dictated by how objects are placed in relation to each others and has a negative or positive force on the environment. Relationships, finance and health are affected by the quality of the energy. Many people arrange the contents of their homes, following the rules and recommendations of FengShui.

Different rooms in the residence have different requirements and they have to be treated in a different way. There should be only one door for the bedroom and the bed should not be positioned in between the window and the door as this could disturb your sleep. The bed should be constructed from wood and people should be facing the door and sleep at least 45cm above the floor. Pictures of wild animals or water as well as mirrors should be avoided. Thick curtains should drape the window and the walls should be painted in red, blue or green shades.

The stove and sink should not be adjacent in the kitchen as the proximity of water and fire can be conflictual. Stoves should be placed in the south corner, the room must have a wide entry and microwaves are not recommended. FengShui is also applied to dining rooms and living rooms. There should be at least one wall without a window and the paintwork must be in bright colors. Elements that bring luck include mirrors to reflect food on the table, the hanging of family pictures and television sets or hi-fi systems that stand at the west wall.

Even the smallest room in the house, containing the toilet, has guidelines. To keep out negative energy, the door and toilet lid should be kept closed. The room should always be clean and it's bad luck to have plants or pictures. Stairs must be brightly lit as a dark stairway can bring negative energy. Good luck will fall through open stairs and confusion will be brought by a spiral staircase. Entries must also be brightly lit but be painted in muted shades. They must be warm and can be decorated with plants or water features. It's fun to test Feng Shui and see its affects, if any. I truly believe the best way to advance in life is to keep an open mind.
