Batman was originally called The Bat Man and has been a fictional character in DC comic books since 1939 and more recently the driving force behind the demand for child batman costumes.

Batman assumes the day-to-day identity of Bruce Wayne a wealthy business man, under whose cover he operates. The darkness of batman the character comes from the fact that he witnessed the murder of his parents after which he vowed to live a life devoted to the prevention of crime.

The two main characters in his life are his butler and Robin, his associate on the various mission he undertakes in his batman costume. Batman, unlike other super heroes of the time, has no super powers, although you might think he had when you see him in action in the comic strips and in recent films.

The batman story worked and people continued to want to read more of his adventures, leading to a tv series in the 60's. When the blockbuster movies were created he was give the darker aspect of his character.

Batman appeared initially in 1943 in a newspaper column and was soon followed by a serial.He then went on to appear in the adventures of superman in 1945. All this PR helped to launch batman as a household name,

In 1966 a tv series then featured a new series of batman and used camp humor to become a pop phenomenon. The actor West, wrote he was not happy with the description of "camp" for the series, but the show ran for 120 episodes, on this format.

The next tv series was super friends and was an animation from Hana Barbera. The voice over here was replaced with Adam West, once again.
