iPhone Battery Life

By: David Smith..

The iPhone is Apple's new smartphone product, taking the Apple brand and it's Ipod success to a new market. It's pretty much a no brainer that the iPhone is going to be as successful as it's Ipod forbearers.

The iPhone signature feature is it's new touch screen technology. It's almost sci-fi type technology is truly groundbreaking. But, beyond the pretty new features resides a very capable phone. It's fully multimedia capable, offering a 2.0 megapixel digital camera, wi-fi connectivity to the internet, plus it plays MP3's, podcasts, and videos. There are two models, the cheaper model offers 4 gigabytes of storage while the 8 gigabyte model is for those who need more room. Each version of the phone is powered by a very capable proprietary Apple battery.

The official battery time of the iPhone offers up to 250 hours of standby time power, and can crank out 24 hours of MP3 play, 7 hours of video playback. It has a talk time of up to 8 hours, and can use the internet up to 6 hours it's most power intensive action.

The iPhone battery shows the experience that Apple has gained through it's iPod products. It completely blows away the competition. Consider the top competitors to the iPhone. For instance the Nokia N95 only has a talk time of about 4 hours. The Samsung Blackjack only has a talktime of about 5.5 hours, the Palm Treo, and the Blackberry Curve 8300 only come in at about 4 hours of talk time which is doubled by the iPhone battery.

Compared to it's competitors, the Apple iPhone's battery life is very impressive.

There is one drawback however. Even with Apple's impressive iPhone Battery Life, the battery is internal and not removable.

I've owned a Palm Treo for years. Myself and many other Treo users know about our battery life issues, for that reason I often have a battery replacement with me and charged. So in case the battery goes dead, I can quickly replace it with the backup battery. This cannot happen with the iPhone, you must recharge the battery to be able to use it again.

The other problem with the Apple's iPhone battery system is that eventually when the battery dies you have another issue. The battery can only be replaced by a licensed Apple technician either locally or by shipping the iPhone to a service location.

So there you have it. The iPhone battery. Powerful, but with one weakness.
